Agromedicine – The Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember (FK UNEJ), held a coordination meeting on the standardization of laboratory equipment usage and work instructions on Friday, December 19, 2025. The meeting took place in the FK UNEJ Accreditation Room as part of ongoing efforts to improve the quality of laboratory management and to harmonize work procedures across all laboratory units.
The coordination meeting was led directly by the Vice Dean II of FK UNEJ, dr. Heni Fatmawati, M.Kes., Sp.Rad., NK-L.(K). In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of standardizing the use of laboratory equipment to ensure occupational safety, accuracy of results, and the effective utilization of facilities and infrastructure supporting education, research, and community service.
The standardization of laboratory equipment work instructions is considered a strategic step in establishing orderly, systematic, and regulation-compliant laboratory governance. Through the preparation and implementation of uniform work instructions, it is expected that all laboratory users will share the same understanding of operational procedures, from preparation and usage to equipment maintenance.
The meeting was attended by representatives of laboratory managers, educational support staff, and other related parties within FK UNEJ. All participants were actively involved in the discussion, particularly in identifying differences in procedures that have been applied so far and in efforts to align standards for laboratory equipment usage.
In addition to discussing standardization, the coordination meeting also served as a forum for conveying technical constraints encountered in each laboratory. Input and experiences from laboratory managers became important material in formulating work instructions that are practical and suited to real conditions in the field.
The Vice Dean II of FK UNEJ also stated that the outcomes of this coordination meeting would be followed up by the preparation of well-documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory equipment work instructions. These documents will later serve as official references for all members of the academic community in utilizing FK UNEJ laboratory facilities.
This standardization effort is in line with FK UNEJ’s commitment to maintaining educational quality and supporting the fulfillment of accreditation standards. With clear and uniform work instructions in place, the risk of equipment misuse can be minimized, while efficiency and the quality of academic activities in laboratories can be enhanced.
Through the implementation of this coordination meeting, FK UNEJ hopes to realize a professional, safe, and sustainable laboratory management system. This initiative is expected to support the creation of an excellent and competitive academic environment, in line with the vision and mission of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember.
