COMMUNITY SERVICE
Community Service Profile

The following is an overview of community service activities carried out by teaching staff at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember (FK UNEJ). Community service is a key pillar in supporting FK UNEJ’s vision: to become a leading educational institution in the field of agromedicine in Southeast Asia. Through various community service activities, FK UNEJ is committed to making a real contribution to improving the quality of health and well-being of the community, especially those in and around the agromedicine region. Each activity is designed to reflect a spirit of innovation and compassion, and is tailored to local needs.

FK UNEJ’s community service activities encompass various areas, from health services and education to improving the quality of life. One primary focus is agromedicine-based health, a unique approach that combines aspects of agriculture and health to improve community well-being. The community service programs implemented focus not only on disease management but also on disease prevention through community empowerment and health education. This aligns with FK UNEJ’s mission to make agromedicine a foundation for the development of science and technology in the health sector.

In recent years, the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FK UNEJ) has successfully implemented various community service programs, both preventive and curative. Some of the flagship programs include nutrition counseling in remote agricultural areas, free health checkups in agro-medical areas, and emergency response training for farmers and plantation workers. These programs involve not only educators but also students from various health-focused organizations and communities.

In addition to physical health programs, the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FK UNEJ) also plays an active role in improving community mental health through an agro-medical approach. Counseling and psychosocial support programs for communities affected by natural disasters in agricultural areas are a concrete example of the dedication of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FK UNEJ) educators. These activities not only help the community recover mentally but also provide an understanding of the importance of maintaining mental health amidst the pressures of work in the agricultural sector.

The Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FK UNEJ) has also implemented collaborative programs with various parties, at the local, national, and international levels. One such service program involving international collaboration is agro-medical health training conducted with several universities in Southeast Asia. This program aims to exchange knowledge and technology in an effort to develop agromedicine as a field of study applicable in various countries with similar agricultural characteristics.

The Faculty of Medicine, University of East Java (FK UNEJ)’s community service program also includes applied research activities involving the community. Faculty of Medicine, University of East Java (FK UNEJ) educators conduct field research focused on health issues faced by farmers and workers in the agromedicine sector, such as diseases caused by exposure to agricultural chemicals and work-related injuries. The results of this research are then applied in the form of prevention programs that can be directly implemented by the community, with the aim of improving occupational safety and the well-being of farmers.

This community service is expected to continue to grow and have a broader impact on the community, in line with the Faculty of Medicine, University of East Java’s (FK UNEJ) vision as a center of excellence in education and community service in the field of agromedicine in Southeast Asia.
