Agromedicine – The Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember (FK UNEJ), conducted a field evaluation for the proposal to open an Internal Medicine Specialist Study Program by the Directorate of Institutional Affairs, Directorate General of Higher Education, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. This activity represents an important stage in the establishment of a new study program aimed at strengthening specialist medical education services at the University of Jember.
The field evaluation was held at the Avicenna Auditorium of FK UNEJ and was attended by the Dean of FK UNEJ along with the faculty leadership. Representatives from the Jember Regency Health Office were also present, as well as the Task Force Team of the Internal Medicine Specialist Medical Education Program (PPDS) of FK UNEJ, who are directly involved in the preparation and development of the proposed study program.
The activity was also attended online by the Rector of the University of Jember, Dr. Ir. Iwan Taruna, M.Eng., IPM., ASEAN Eng. In addition, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, the Vice Rector for General Affairs and Finance, and the Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) of the University of Jember participated in the evaluation virtually.
The team from the Directorate of Institutional Affairs, Directorate General of Higher Education, carried out an assessment of various aspects required for the establishment of the Internal Medicine Study Program. The evaluated aspects included the readiness of human resources, the educational curriculum, supporting facilities and infrastructure, the network of teaching hospitals, and institutional support from both the university and the local government.
In her remarks, the Dean of FK UNEJ expressed the faculty’s commitment to developing high-quality specialist medical education that is oriented toward the needs of community health services. She emphasized that the opening of the Internal Medicine Study Program is expected to address the demand for specialist physicians, particularly in the Tapal Kuda region and its surrounding areas.
Representatives of the Jember Regency Health Office also conveyed their support for the proposed establishment of the study program. This support is considered strategic in efforts to improve the quality of regional health services and to meet the need for internal medicine specialists in healthcare facilities.
Meanwhile, the Task Force Team of the Internal Medicine PPDS FK UNEJ presented in detail the academic and non-academic readiness that has been prepared. The presentation covered a competency-based curriculum plan, the availability of lecturers and clinical educators, as well as the quality assurance system to be implemented.
Through this field evaluation activity, FK UNEJ hopes that the process of proposing the establishment of the Internal Medicine Specialist Study Program will proceed smoothly and achieve optimal results. The opening of this program is expected to strengthen FK UNEJ’s role in the development of specialist medical education and to make a tangible contribution to improving the overall level of public health.
