Agromedicine – The Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember is on track to expand postgraduate education programs by introducing the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) in surgery. In order to disseminate the proposal and obtain valuable inputs, FK UNEJ held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on May 18, 2023.
The FGD was attended by various related parties, including; surgeons, networking hospitals, and medical education experts. The main objective of this FGD is to discuss important aspects related to establishing the surgical PPDS program in FK UNEJ such as curriculum, facilities, teaching staff, and entry requirements.
At the opening of the FGD, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Jember University, dr. Ulfa Elfiah, M.Kes., SP. BP-RE., Subsp. L.B.L(K), said that the addition of the surgical PPDS program is an essential step in improving the quality of medical education at FK UNEJ. He stressed the importance of involving various stakeholders in the decision-making process to ensure that the program will run well.
The discussions conducted in the FGD took place with enthusiasm and full of involvement. The participants discussed various aspects related to the implementation of the surgical PPDS program, including adjusting the curriculum to the needs of clinical practice, procuring adequate facilities and equipment, and the availability of qualified lecturers and mentors.
Some of the inputs that emerged in the FGD included collaborating with hospitals and related health institutions to ensure surgical PPDS students get access to adequate clinical experience. In addition, participants also highlighted the importance of having an ongoing monitoring and evaluation mechanism to ensure the surgical PPDS program runs in accordance with established standards.
