Agromedicine – The Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember (FK UNEJ), held a workshop titled “Developing Integrity Zones Towards Corruption-Free Areas (WBK) and Clean and Serving Bureaucracy Areas (WBBM)” on Friday, October 4, 2024. The workshop took place at the Blambangan Hall, Kokoon Hotel, Banyuwangi, and featured Sardiyanto, S.E., M.M., Head of the Internal Compliance and Counseling Section (KIP) of Jember Customs and Excise, who also serves as the Head of the Preparatory Team for Offices to Receive WBK/WBBM Status at the Jember Customs and Excise Office (KPPBC TMP C).

The first session of the workshop was delivered by Sardiyanto, S.E., M.M. In his presentation, he explained the basics of integrity zones, including their definition, objectives, and the importance of shared commitment in realizing integrity zone development. “An integrity zone is a shared commitment that must be diligently implemented by every element within an institution to create an environment free from corruption and oriented towards quality public services,” said Sardiyanto.

In addition to explaining the definition and purpose of an integrity zone, Sardiyanto outlined the steps institutions must take to develop an integrity zone, including how they can innovate to improve the quality of public services. Innovation, he argued, is key to realizing a clean and serving bureaucracy. “With innovation, we can provide faster, more accurate, and more accountable services, so that the public can directly benefit from our improvement efforts,” he added.

Following the presentation, the workshop continued with a discussion session. Participants—including leadership, academic staff, and educational staff from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember (UNEJ)—enthusiastically asked questions and shared experiences related to implementing integrity zones in their workplaces. Sardiyanto answered each question in detail and provided concrete examples of integrity zone implementation from other institutions that have successfully achieved WBK and WBBM status.

During the discussion, Sardiyanto also emphasized the importance of leadership in driving change toward establishing an integrity zone. “Leaders must be role models for all staff in upholding the values of integrity and clean service. Leadership commitment will determine the success of this entire program,” he explained.

The two-hour workshop, held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time), concluded with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember (UNEJ), delivering closing remarks and expectations. Dr. dr. Ulfa Elfiah thanked Sardiyanto for his presentation and reaffirmed the Faculty’s commitment to continuously improving integrity and the quality of public services within the faculty.

Through this activity, the Faculty hopes to soon implement an integrity zone toward WBK and WBBM. This workshop is one of the Faculty’s strategic steps in improving accountability, transparency, and innovation in public services while supporting the university’s vision of building a corruption-free and high-quality academic environment.
