Agromedicine – The Director of Environmental Health, Directorate General of Disease Control, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, dr. Anas Mar’ruf, M.K.M., attended virtually the Guest Lecture and Agromedicine Village Inauguration held by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the FK UNEJ Auditorium.

Also present at the event were the Vice Rector III representing the Rector of the University of Jember, Prof. Drs. Bambang Kuswandi, M.Sc., Ph.D.; the Head of Health Services Division of the Jember District Health Office, dr. Santi Indriasari; representatives from the Department of Food Crops, Horticulture, and Plantations of Jember Regency; the Head of Jenggawah Village; and the academic community of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember.

In his remarks, Vice Rector III Prof. Drs. Bambang Kuswandi, M.Sc., Ph.D., conveyed that the Rector fully supports the inauguration of the Agromedicine Village. He emphasized that this initiative serves as concrete evidence of FK UNEJ’s success in realizing its vision of becoming a center of Agromedicine in Southeast Asia and a reference point for institutions focusing on Agromedicine. He also expressed confidence that this initiative would have a significant impact on the University of Jember. Furthermore, it is expected to greatly contribute to improving farmers’ health, which in turn will strengthen food security. As a result, all sectors are anticipated to benefit from the efforts carried out by FK UNEJ.

At the end of September, in his welcoming remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember, dr. Supangat, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BA., stated that September is a very special month for farmers, as it is commemorated as National Farmers Day. He also noted that 22 years ago, in 2002, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched the Healthy Village program. On this occasion, Friday, September 30, 2022, in collaboration with the University of Jember, the Ministry of Health, the Department of Agriculture, the Health Office, and the Head of Jenggawah Village, Jenggawah was officially inaugurated as an Agromedicine Village of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember.
