Agromedis – The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Jember (FK UNEJ), once again आयोजित a guest lecture titled “Statistical Principles for Agromedicine Epidemiological Studies” on Monday, February 3, 2025. The event, held at the FK UNEJ Auditorium, was attended by 180 students and lecturers from various study programs with an interest in epidemiology and statistics in the field of agromedicine.

This guest lecture featured two distinguished speakers: Assistant Professor Athira Nandakumar, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., from Kagoshima University, Japan, and Dr. Saekhol Bakri, MPH., Ph.D., from Universitas Diponegoro. Their presence provided valuable insights for both students and lecturers in understanding and applying statistical principles in agromedicine epidemiological studies.

The event was officially opened by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FK UNEJ, dr. Ida Srisurani Wiji Astuti. In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of mastering statistical methods in epidemiological research, particularly in the rapidly developing field of agromedicine. “Statistics is a fundamental tool in validating epidemiological research, and a strong understanding in this area will be highly beneficial for students and academics,” she stated.

The first session was delivered by Assistant Professor Athira Nandakumar with a presentation titled “Basics of Epidemiological Studies.” She explained the fundamental concepts of epidemiology, including research methods used to identify risk factors and relationships between health variables within the context of agromedicine. She also highlighted the importance of robust study design to produce valid and reliable data.

The second session was presented by Dr. Saekhol Bakri, titled “Statistical Analysis for Agromedicine Epidemiological Studies.” In this session, he discussed various statistical analysis methods commonly used in epidemiological research, including logistic regression, hypothesis testing, and data analysis techniques using statistical software.

Participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm throughout the event, with many actively engaging in discussions and posing questions to the speakers. Several questions focused on the application of statistical methods in public health research, as well as the challenges faced in collecting and analyzing epidemiological data within the agromedicine context.

In addition to the FK UNEJ academic community, the event also attracted participants from various institutions, including representatives from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), who actively contributed to the discussions. Their involvement reflects the growing recognition of agromedicine as a strategic research field in Indonesia.

The event concluded with an engaging interactive discussion session, providing participants with the opportunity to explore research methodologies in greater depth and gain practical insights directly from the experts. This session is expected to inspire both students and lecturers to further develop statistically driven epidemiological research.

Through this guest lecture, FK UNEJ reaffirms its commitment to enhancing the quality of education and research, particularly in the field of agromedicine. The event not only broadened the knowledge of FK UNEJ’s academic community but also strengthened academic networks with national and international educational and research institutions.

As a follow-up, FK UNEJ plans to continue organizing guest lectures and international seminars to enhance academic understanding and analytical skills in agromedicine. This initiative aligns with FK UNEJ’s vision to become a center of excellence in agriculture-based medical education and research in Indonesia.
