Agromedicine – The Faculty of Medicine, University of Jember (FK UNEJ) has established a strong collaboration with the international charitable organization Smile Train to organize a specialized seminar aimed at exploring the nutritional status of patients with cleft lip and palate, both before and after surgery.
This collaboration represents a progressive step by FK UNEJ in enhancing awareness and understanding of the critical role of nutrition in managing cleft lip and palate patients. The seminar encouraged participants to gain deeper insights into how optimal nutritional status can significantly influence post-operative recovery and overall patient outcomes.
During the seminar, experts from FK UNEJ and representatives from Smile Train shared their knowledge and experiences in treating cleft lip and palate cases. They emphasized the importance of early nutritional assessment for patients undergoing surgery, as well as the role of proper nutrition in accelerating post-surgical healing.
Participants, including medical students, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, were encouraged to be more attentive to the nutritional conditions of cleft patients. They were equipped with knowledge on how to assess and monitor patients’ nutritional status, along with appropriate nutritional intervention strategies to support recovery.
The seminar also served as a valuable discussion forum, allowing participants to exchange experiences and best practices in managing cleft lip and palate cases. They shared challenges in ensuring adequate nutritional intake for patients, as well as effective strategies that have been successfully implemented to improve nutritional outcomes.
The collaboration between FK UNEJ and Smile Train in organizing this seminar demonstrates a strong commitment from both parties to improving the quality of care for cleft lip and palate patients. By focusing on nutritional aspects, it is expected that surgical outcomes and overall quality of life for patients will improve.
As an academic and research institution, FK UNEJ plans to continue developing similar programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals in addressing complex health issues such as cleft lip and palate. The faculty also aims to expand collaborations with various stakeholders, including non-profit organizations and community institutions, to achieve shared goals in improving public health.
Through this seminar, FK UNEJ and Smile Train hope to create a lasting positive impact in improving the understanding and care of cleft lip and palate patients in Indonesia. This collaboration is expected to serve as a model for other institutions to work together in advancing public health and community well-being.
