Agromedis – The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Jember (FK UNEJ), continues to strengthen its role as an internationally oriented educational institution by organizing a hybrid guest lecture titled “Stem Cell Technology for Musculoskeletal Defects.” The event featured an international speaker, Prof. Dr. Jenneke Klein-Nulend from the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and was held on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Avicenna Auditorium, FK UNEJ.

The event was conducted in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend in person or join via Zoom Meeting and live streaming on FK UNEJ’s YouTube channel. More than 300 participants, including students, lecturers, medical practitioners, and researchers from both Indonesia and abroad, took part in the event.

The program began with opening remarks by the Dean of FK UNEJ, Dr. dr. Ulfa Elfiah, who emphasized the importance of the lecture topic in advancing modern medical science, particularly in stem cell technology. “We are honored to welcome Prof. Jenneke as our speaker, as she is one of the world’s leading experts in stem cell applications for musculoskeletal tissue repair. This event is part of FK UNEJ’s ongoing efforts to expand academic insight at the global level,” she stated.

In her lecture, Prof. Jenneke presented the latest innovations in the use of stem cell technology to address various musculoskeletal disorders, such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and bone injuries. She explained the mechanisms of tissue regeneration using stem cells, as well as the challenges and opportunities in their clinical application.

“We are living in a remarkable era where tissue regeneration is no longer just a concept, but a reality made possible by stem cell technology. However, its implementation requires strong collaboration among researchers, clinicians, and industry to ensure accessibility,” said Prof. Jenneke.

The Q&A session, moderated by dr. Laksmi, drew enthusiastic participation from both onsite and online audiences. One question from an FK UNEJ student addressed the potential application of stem cell technology in Indonesia. Prof. Jenneke highlighted Indonesia’s significant potential in developing this technology, given its rich biological resources and the growing need for regenerative medical solutions.

The event also served as an opportunity for FK UNEJ to explore potential international collaborations with the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The Dean expressed hope that this relationship could develop into joint research initiatives or student and faculty exchange programs.

The hybrid format enabled global participation, with more than 150 online attendees from various countries. The organizing committee ensured smooth technical execution, both in the auditorium and across digital platforms, allowing all participants to engage effectively.

With the success of this event, FK UNEJ reaffirms its commitment to continuously fostering innovation in medical education. “We will continue to invite international experts to share their knowledge, in order to broaden the academic perspectives of our students and faculty,” concluded Dr. Ulfa.

This event not only served as a platform for knowledge exchange but also marked a concrete step toward FK UNEJ’s vision of becoming a leading medical institution in Southeast Asia.
